What is fabric yield / marker efficiency?
Marker efficiency (yield) is the percentage of fabric area actually used by cut pieces versus the total spread area. Higher yield means less strip waste along the roll width and fewer linear meters purchased for the same order quantity.
How are pieces per linear meter calculated?
This tool uses grid nesting on roll goods: pieces across = floor(usable width ÷ piece width across roll); rows per meter = floor(100 cm ÷ piece length along roll). Pieces per meter = pieces across × rows per meter. Usable width = roll width minus selvedge loss.
When should I rotate the piece on the marker?
If rotating 90° fits more pieces across the usable width or yields more rows per meter, yield improves. The calculator auto-compares entered orientation vs rotated and picks the better layout.
What selvedge loss should I use?
Enter total unusable width on both edges combined. Woven goods often lose 1–3 cm per side; prints may need more for registration. When in doubt, measure the first spread on your table.
How does extra waste % differ from strip waste?
Strip waste is the unused width left after grid nesting (end-of-roll width loss). Extra waste % covers marker defects, end loss, QC pulls and cutting errors — applied on top of base linear meters.
